MY NAME IS ANGELA POWERS
I love to paint. Period.
I am interested in impressionism on the edge of abstraction achieved by simplicity of form. In my work I am looking to evoke a feeling: attitude, beauty, sensuality, romance, and my favorite subject is the female form. It's good to be a girl. I may paint in a more classical style or more modern style depending on the feeling I am trying to evoke.
Angela's work has been descried as "painterly, romantic, impressionistic, and well....just beautiful." Angela's figurative work is expressive and thought provoking. She is influenced by the work of Modigliani, Cezane, Diebenkorn, and current painter Dan McCaw. Simplicity of form and awareness of light is evident in her work. Some of her work is more traditional in nature while other pieces lean towards abstraction of the human form depending on the feeling she is trying to evoke.
Angela studied figure and portrait painting at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, painting and drawing at Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio and has participated in numerous workshops across the country as well as in Europe. "To be an artist is to be a life long student" says Angela. Angela has a long a varied art career.
After graduating from MTSU with a marketing/fashion merchandising degree, she started a very successful painted children's clothing business. She has painted wall murals, pet portraits, home portraits, and eventually she opened and ran an art school for ten years- Purple Dog Art Studio in New Albany, Ohio with over 100 students attending each week. After selling the art school in 2012, Angela paints full time at her native home studio in Brentwood, Tennessee and leads art trips to Italy and France- Travelingpainters.com. Angela enjoys sharing the love of art, her most notable students: impoverished children of the wine farmers in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
